Out of the box, previous Maemo releases supported non-password protected CIFS shares. That feature is missing in Maemo 5.

CIFS support had never been a feature Nokia specifically sought for Maemo devices, instead it was a pleasant side-effect of Maemo using a piece of Gnome, GnomeVFS, that provided it along with other things. Gnome though, abandoned GnomeVFS in early 2008.

So, CIFS support in Maemo 5 will need to be added by a third party.
