The one pictured here, is only in sygic, since it's a part of the application.

The one I posted is a forced rotation of the normal hildon virtual keyboard.

When this app is released, I think people can somewhat reuse the keyboard for other apps or some sort of hack to make other application calling this keyboard when in vertical mode

Interesting!!

it does indeed now have a portrait VKB, it is annoying that I had to implement it my self rather than there just being a system wide one.
I would assume that a system one would be much better performing and provide all sorts of options for interesting enhancements to usability of input. Mine is just a basic set of buttons in a layout.

whilst I very much use my n900 in landscape, and bought it because it has a real physical keyboard, I have to admit there are times when a portrait keyboard is of use.

Check out Witter, a twitter client for N900
http://danielwould.wordpress.com/witter

If Witter isn't working for you, eg crashes/doesn't start, gives errors etc etc. Please run it from x-term using:
run-standalone.sh python2.5 /opt/witter/witter.py

This will generate diagnostic output. Without this I cannot help you.

Is there anyway to add a vkb just to the built-in browser? and maybe to conversations app as well? Since changing the system wide vkb is probably not doable, adding it to individual application might be a good work-around.

It's not much, but try rotate.py or rotate_app.

(rotate_app is somewhere past the first page.)
