trying to rid myself of fcam drivers but it comes up with this
/home/user # apt-get purge fcam-drivers_1.0.7-1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package fcam-driverss_1.0.7-1

sorry i don't understand the reference question?

i used the apt get autoremove and this did the trick (thanks), i've also pulled the battery and that screen is still messed up which makes me wonder why it was ok when i removed them before.

It's looking like i am going to have to reflash unless you guys have got anymore suggestions for me to try?

what, wait? You can boot your n900? FSCK all partitions RIGHT NOW.

Set the device to offline mode, wait a couple of minutes to settle after boot then fsck the rootfs and the emmc. Just ignore the warnings about mounted files sytems and hit that file system the fsck up.

There must be something else that mess up your SMS screen, rather than the dependency problem. Do you recall installing anything that is sms-related?

as root:

Code:
fsck /dev/mmcblk0p1
fsck /dev/mmcblk0p2
It will warn you about fsck'ing a mounted file system potentially causing severe damage (to the software, a flash will still save you). However as you are about 1 step from re-flashing then what does it matter. Just remember to do it with as few programs as possible running in offline mode. This will minimise the risk to your file system.

Next time, install backupmenu.
