Maybe you should use VLC player codecs? application is open source so everything it includes needs to be legal i think

The maemo dsp drivers are somewhat limited so vlc does everything on the cpu when the dsp cannot be used leading to subpar performance...

If someone can point me to 720p/1080p codecs, maybe someone can make a similar wiki page. I doubt 1080p is possible. 720p recording may have to be without on screen view.
Check this :

http://focus.ti.com/dsp/docs/dspfind...65&familyId=44

And what I see as a major problem is that dsp driver is missing from meego kernel.

but what is the point of playing 720p on a screen that can only show 480p max and has no HDMI out ?

===> sucking the battery even quickier, make the processor heat very much and what more ?

Its more interesting to be able to record 720p since we don't keep the records only on the phone...

Yes... I will answer you.

1- you not need to re-encode downloaded videos.

2-you can put the video where you whant and conect to a HDTV via USB to play the video in REAL HD. ( some new TV you can conect a pendrive to watch movies and some videoplayers to)

3- If 720p playback works, 720p recording will also work (the hardware is capable, if not why Omnia HD, H1, 3GS have HD recording? the last with a poor lens )

Not missing,

(TIDSPBRIDGE)

We do occasionally know what we're doing.. also, we tested video recording with dsp codecs some weeks back.

That said, thanks for URLs. Could you locate some info that they handle 720p on c64x dsp?

Do you mean by hardware??

Encoding and decoding are different. Encoding can be significantly more computationally intensive than decoding.

So, no, if playback works, that doesn't mean recording works.

That said, if someone gets 720p encoding working with the DSP, I can help to make sure we still have an LCD viewfinder.

Great to see it in enabled in .config, I mean it is missing here http://meego.gitorious.org/meego-dev...master/drivers. Maybe I am not looking at right place. Anyway if you say it is there, I believe you (link?).

Re 720p codecs handling:
here https://gstreamer.ti.com/gf/project/gstreamer_ti/ they are listed as future development/todo, I assume that it is possible for your team to contact TI for some early versions (if exists). And h264 720p encoder is listed as available right now. Not sure for what HW though.

And here http://focus.ti.com/dsp/docs/thirdpa...r&companyId=59 are Ittiam's codecs, which I strongly believe will be given for evaluation to meego team if requested. Another 720p codecs bundle belongs to Aricent http://www.aricent.com/Software/Mult...odecsACSL.aspx, could be an option too.
