The automatic connection you are after can be done via bluetooth to OVI suite.

The manual method via rsync/ssh is much faster and has the benefits of not requiring OVI suite to be installed on your PC/Mac.

Since the MyDocs and SD-Card "mass storage mode options" are equal to folders on the filesystems of the N900, you can "mount" them with sshfs to any place you like on your computer.
If you use Linux, that explanation shold be enoug basically. But I assume you use Windows, which complicates things (for me). I guess you can mount folders with sshfs to any drive letter, but I'm not sure. Windows is too complicated for me.
