Which would make it probably hard and inefficient to power it, if it needs more than a few mA.
Also, wasn't the idea that third parties could develop other halves? Using more traditional stuff like I2S, CAN or - hey why not - simply USB would be easier, faster and more efficient. For USB there are many devices already available, and have already support in the kernel. An other half with fingerprint scanner would be a no-brainer.
