La Jetee is an incredible half-hour black and white low budget masterpiece that shouldn't be missed. It's available on instant watch from Netflix.

+1 for Colossus: The Forbin Project.

I loved Alphaville.

Edit: On the Beach. Them (the giant ants!)

One cool thing about Serenity: the sound is AWESOME. It's like another character in the film. So watch it on 5.1 with a killer subwoofer, or better. The ship's engines will rattle your windows!
Thanks for the tip... I have been looking movies with good soundtracks, and will be checking this out. Nice that it is available in Netflix as HD stream, so I can try it tonight!

I have THX Select 2 Plus certified receiver and 5.1 speaker setup that was just calibrated with included calibration microphone. The sub I have is Definite Technology Supercube I (goes down to 13Hz ). Maybe one day I uprade to the Trinity Signature model.

Anyone interested in some chinese made movies? (Off topic for this thread... sorry.) I was very pleasantly surprised about the "Red Cliff". It is an avesome 2 DVD (long!) movie with very good storyline, sounds and visuals, easily rivals anything that Hollywood has ever made. Another my favorites is "Kung Fu Hustle", and if you liked that then "Shaolin Soccer" (also called as "Kung Fu Soccer") you'll like too. The latter two have few so funny schemes that you just can't stop laughing...

When I was young I saw this soft science fiction film (50s? 60s? 70s?) where a guy from Earth was helping some woman from another planet. I think it was set in Europe. One thing I remember is that the woman had a slightly elongated head.

Someone was after her I think and toward the end she disappeared-- then years later the man is introduced to a little girl who looks just like her, head and all. The assumption is that the earth man and alien woman were genetically compatible, and the girl was their daughter.

Anyway I have tried for decades to find out what that movie was. Maybe someone here has seen it?
