SailfishOS is based on Mer, which started as a fork of MeeGo, and thus is a real descendant of MeeGo. Hence it's rpm-based.

Maybe Cepi just doesn't want to develop for Jolla any more.
[1] is easily solvable (as noted in this thread),
[2] does not seem to be valid anymore, as Jolla is (supposedly) back in business.
So either he gives a good reason, or he comes back!
