What he tried to say was.... "Just forget about MEEGO you OS obsessed people!".

Well, I know what he was really trying to say but Windows Phone 7 does NOT do what Meego Harmattan does does it now? and won't anytime soon. or does he think we won't notice the difference? He's on a different page here and I'm sure his answer didn't really convince anyone.
I understand why you are not happy. But I also suggest you to look past Nokia's decision, and give N9 a try when it's available. From end user's perspective, there will be decent amount of good/useful apps and the phone will be supported in one way or another. Hopefully, the swipe UI will evolve and live on elsewhere so when the N9 gets old, you can find something with similar UX to replace it.

I think Marko wanted to point out the UX is what matters (to end user), I mean if WP has the swipe UI I am sure more people here will like it. For developers it's a different story, but the Qt cross-platform thing isn't as bad as it looks... I know there are many inconsistencies across platforms, but as long as you work on top of Qt layer and the Qt layer is continuously supported, they become something you learned and worked around.... and that's why Nokians try to frame N9 as Qt phone, and for that I kind of understand.

If he expects anyone to be convinced by that load of bollox, he must have been sniffing that petrol he was banging on about.

Well he is right. The amount of people over here is really small compared to the most important segment of people who really don't care about openness. Average smartphone users don't give a **** about the core os.

Said it hundred times and I will say it again: Name of the OS or the FOSS thinking does not compute with USER EXPERIENCE.

He is convincing shareholders with that kind of thinking. Why do you care about the name of the OS?

As much as i want to agree with you i can not because of what has happened with the N900.

Not even the meego.ce team could put together a decent UX let alone an independant OS for the N900 and they have access to ALL closed code of the N900.

Do you honestly think anything will be different when already Nokia have said no support if any and once again the OS of the N9 is CLOSED SOURCE, so it is another "here we go again" situation.

People who want to buy the N9 do so for whatever reasons but for sure they all know of ill support in general from Nokia so they do with this in mind.

I say WAIT and see what happens with this N9 and its OS and the updates that may never come.

As for further development from a community or who ever.... yeah yeah yeah and look at what happened with the N900 !!!.

You still don't get it, do you? FOSS equals *hit to the end user. You might want to get that head out from the bush.

LOL Who is "meego.ce team"??? Intel's 5 guys?

I care about long term support for a device that:

A. I'm busy writing software for.

B. I'm being asked to consider paying $600+ for.

Perhaps you don't consider it to be important whether a device runs Meego-Harmattan or Windoze Phone, but I do. It's not about the name.

I appreciate that it doesn't matter to most consumers, who will vote with their wallets. We'll see soon enough whether Nokia have the right gamble. To date, not many consumers seem to want to spend money on Windoze Phone devices.
