I know what's the problem: merlin's repo doesn't have a label set. And I don't see any way to apt-pin it...

I notified merlin1991 about that.

@llucax - this is just a warning, you may safely ignore it. Otherwise I don't know which is the key that michaaa62 has posted (michaaa62, no offence, I just don;t know ), but thumb repo is signed with merlin1991's key. If you trust merlin1991, then add his key :P

@impeham - I mean framebuffer console driver which enables you to see the kernel messages while booting. Also if you have syslog, I think it could be of use, though if kernel is unable to mount rootfs for some reason, syslog cannot help. In short - I need anything in addition to "don't boot"
Code:
gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv 144B83D58239FA6E
gpg: fordere Schlüssel 8239FA6E von hkp-Server subkeys.pgp.net an
gpg: Schlüssel 8239FA6E: Öffentlicher Schlüssel "maemo.merlin1991.at cssu repositories (fremantle) <christian_ratzenhofer@yahoo.de>" importiert
gpg: Anzahl insgesamt bearbeiteter Schlüssel: 1

@michaaa62 - thanks pal, though I cannot imagine how a missing gpg key would lead to unbootable device. Would you elaborate?

@freemangordon: Please do not mix those posts. The commands just fix the complaint of apt-get about unauthenticated packages in this post http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=709 of llucax, nothing more, nothing less. That is, why i quoted the post i was referring to!
The commands have nothing to do with bootable or unbootable device.

Upgraded from thumb16 to 5.1thumb0.
Maemo unbootable. Reflashed.

The dots on boot did not appear, but the keyboard light went off when I slid down the screen (and on again when I slid it back up).

Before reflashing, I tried using RescueOS to see what went wrong, and I still have no clue what happened. Upstart's "system-services" and ipconfig weren't upgraded, but I doubt there were any changes those packages that made the system bomb out.

Just a wild guess, but did you follow the instructions here?:

@freemangordon
re rant: sorry that it happened in Your thread My main goal was to explain, why it is not related to thumb flavor at all. No worries, no "war wish" there - it is just opinion, let alone fact, that I've totally lost interest in how mainline CSSU is going to be developed/maintained.
---

re constructive things:

After upgrading thumb via Your script (latest, fixed), package:
system-services

...is left as upgradeable (manually). Installed version is 0.3.8-67+0m5, while candidate for installation is 0.3.8-68+0cssu0.

I've ensured, that I had both community-testing and thumb repos enabled. It looks like package from mainline CSSU was left not upgraded, while using thumb upgrade script. Or is it just me?

Yes, I used the script, run as root, not under sudo.

Also, reflashed and am running 5.1thumb0. All's well over here.

E: Broken packages
I do have apt-pinning enabled. Which string should I for
Pin: release l=

To have the pin work as it should (cssu thumb as the most important source)?

Thanks
It was a problem of cssu-testing repo not enabled (only thumb one). It should be explicitly said that both repos are needed.

Btw. merlin replied, and pinning can be done by
Code:
Pin: release a=community-thumb
