Got mine today. However I have yet to get it working.

I installed tohkbd-0.30-10.9.1.jolla.armv7hl.rpm from http://repo.merproject.org/obs/home:...mv7hl/armv7hl/

When I boot the phone with the keyboard, I get this in console:

Code:
[root@dhcppc0 nemo]# systemctl status tohkbd.service
tohkbd.service - The Other Half QWERTY Keyboard
          Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/tohkbd.service; enabled)
          Active: active (running) since Mon, 28 Apr 2014 22:15:15 +0300; 58s ago

So, does this indicate something that I could try to fix by myself, like a loose connection or?

Might be. lets do some basic connections diagnostics:
(Confirmed, i did start it w/o tohkbd inserted and got same errors)
  • stop the tohkbd daemon first with
    devel-su systemctl stop tohkbd.service
  • then download/install i2ctool from openrepos
  • start i2ctool, tap enable Vdd, tap Probe
  • If there is no green address 3B, there is no connection.
  • disable Vdd from i2ctool
  • try to remove and reinsert, check cable, repeat enable vdd, probe
  • call dirkvl to rescue.
  • If you have green 3B there, close i2ctool, restart the tohkbd daemon with
    devel-su systemctl start tohkbd.service

Thanks for the info. Did as told and I do not get a green 3B, tried reconnecting the keyboard toh a couple of times. No change.

Did not touch the keyboard cable near the camera holes yet, atleast the cable seems to go there but obviously I do not know whether it is properly there. A bit too tiny parts for my eyes at this time of the evening

@Dirkvl: What do you think would be the next action here? Check something (please describe what) or send it back for checking?

You can check the voltage on the connector on the back of the phone. Take usb-port as ground, should have 3x1.7V and 1x3.3V. If not, pcb is not alligned properly or the pads are not clean.

If you send it back, please also include return address!

Speaking of, who else sent me the keyboard back and did not include a return address? Black piece of tape over pcb, cable disconnected

Did the measurements the way you instructed.

At first I got 1.8/0.0/1.8/1.8, so I cleaned the pins. After that I now always get 1.8/3.3/1.8/1.8.

values are for the pins 6 and 5 from left to right as in this picture: http://www.pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=63234 using the usb port as ground.

Cleaning the pins on the tohkbd and connecting the toh does not change things, I still get the same error message and none of the keys work.

Suggestions?

did you measure on the phone? i meant connect the keyboard -> slide open -> tilt open -> measure at the connector at the phone side of the cable

there you should have the same values

but if after cleaning it still doesn't work its probably easier to send it back. its weird, because i test each one before it leaves, but this still happens apparently. its the risk we take!

Ok, measured from the connector at the phone side of the cable, I managed only get one visible 1.8V and no 3.3V.

So. I think I need your address so that I can return this unit for checkup, unless there is nothing else which is enough easy to check or do.
