That lowers the entry point on the costs but doesn't sacrifice the performance. Seeing the new BlackBerry Leap with a 5" screen and being priced at $275 USD off-contract is impressive. Sony's Xperia M4 might be around that same price when it's released.
Both of those are currently mid-tier products, but give it a month, those will be low-tier specs. And I'm not sold that either of the OS's on those phones are as optimized as Sailfish.
Bring on the cheaper phones. Hell, bring on the phones that might come from Chinese brands I've never heard of with a licensed Sailfish OS. I'd rather have options than none at all.
And I don't mind waiting for a mid to high tier device given that it'll arrive sooner than later. The tablet - two more months or so for it to come out. I can't wait.
A Jolla phone in the US - I'm still waiting. If a cheaper device came out and it would work on an American 3G/4G/LTE provider, I'd find a way to get it.

low end - upper mid end - lower high end - hey what are we talking about - I want a mobile that works without lags does decent camara shots and is small enough to fit in my pocket - call it whatever you like ;-) - my Lumia 620 is definitely low end hardware, but works perfect for my needs (except it's the wrong OS), my BB Z10 is a upper mid end and does exactly the same - the N9 - well you all know - and the Jolla one ist actually fast enough for everything and the camera issues are more from the software side than hardware related ...
So it isn't about the specs - it's all about how it fits together - android needs a lot more resources from the hardware side as WP and Sailfish for example so don't mix that up ...
What I would like to see is a lighter and thinner N9 sized device with a brilliant OLED display, 32 GB plus usable SD plus a decent camera 8mpx (+x) with a decent software - if the OS works without lags - I won't mind about any other specs ... Call it whatever you want
Ah and no phablet please - I want a mobile plus a tablet - im over 40 and so old school ;-)

In mobile space GPU power is not the biggest part in competition, at least for now it's more like CPU power and power consumption. If I'm not mistaken, top end Atom X3 should be competitive with most mid range offerings from ARM and Mali T720 supports all relevant new API's and is able to run up to 4k resolutions. So It should give Jolla the opportunity to launch a device with global LTE coverage, good battery life and high resolution display with competitive price.

Netflix, Spotify, Facebook, chromecast...native in sail? That would make a slow end jolla "high end". Add a US price tag to it and any crap Phone would sell like iPhones. Millions

I have to disagree there, the camera issues in Jolla have nothing to do with SW, the problem is the camera module which is what you'd expect in a non-brand generic android device.
It is really the achilles-heel of the device, the only thing that is not really good quality IMHO.

if so, i hope this includes the high-end X3 with four cores, lte, and the 7 series mali GPU.
i also wonder what the omission of X5 and X7 says about the new cherry trail SKU's with the intel Gen8 GPU...

I think I read the chip would handle a full hd display, as well.
Personally, I would go for a lower resolution OLED display, and the largest battery they can afford. It will be needed to keep it working as a wifi router for my tablet!
