Hello everyone,

I finally managed to save enough money to get a Nokia N900. I was wondering if T-Mobile prepaid was working well. I read on the T-Mobile website that T-Zones is included, does this mean I can use internet on the T-mobile 3G network? Would some advanced configuration have to be done?

Also: Will only HTTP work? Or will Skype and IM clients work as well?

Thanks

only a few websites will work like m.yahoo.com and some others. No skype no regular web sites.

I am using this as a temporary solution until my contract is up with Alltel. It works decent on 2G. I do not have 3G here yet to test it. I am using the $1 a day prepaid sidekick plan.
For USA T-Mobile, under settings - internet connections - T-Mobile internet, put in hiptop.t-mobile.com as the access point name. Leave the user name and password blank. Also under the advanced tab, put in the ip address and port of a proxy server. Do a Google search for free proxy server. Or look here http://hidemyass.com/proxy-list/ . With all that, it is still not perfect, I can stream most internet radio stations on edge. Some do not work. It cannot resolve the name of the URL.
IM and E-mail works, Edge is too slow for Skype and SIP.

Hmm, I was looking at the $1 a day sidekick play also. With that, just use Skype with the 3G and SMS/Web is there.

Register at t-mobile.com if you haven't. When logged in you can change your prepaid settings to sidekick. It costs $1 to every time you change. On the sidekick plan, you get free SMS and data. Calls are $.15 /minute.

Good to know. I was hoping to be able to do this when I get my N900.

Leave it on the standard voice plan, then switch to the sidekick plan only when I want data, most of the time I'll have wifi available.

It was even very simple to setup my own proxy (authenticated) on a ubuntu box. I don't think my cable provided IP address changes often if ever.

Ordered a Tmob SIM yesterday with free overnight shipping.
Also signed up for Skype with a balance for landlines and mobiles.
I'm usually in a wifi spot. but should be interesting balancing all the connectivity.
The $1 a day is still cheaper than my old Verizon plan. We will see.

Okay, cool I also want to do this when I get my N900. I also want to try some stuff out with Google Voice.
