Hi,

This is somewhat of an announcement, but not yet official.

I have recently discovered of a "portable ubuntu" project, and decided to tweak it a bit. The idea is that a ubuntu OS exists on a flash drive, and can be ran from windows (yes, it runs an X-server on top of windows).

After running this, I had the idea of installing scratchbox there, and saving the image of a working ubuntu with installed scratchbox.

The installation is (hopefully) almost done, but the image is about 2-3gb.

My question is: Is anyone interested in this project/image? I plan to put it on adrive, but they have a strict policy for downloads from free accounts (up to 3 simultaneous uploads and at medium speed).

If/when the image is complete, I will post the link to it. But I just want to know: is there any interest for this?

Thanks

And it is cheaper, lighter and less consuming than an x86 laptop!

yes please. definitely want an easy way to develop for the n800. Doing it from windows would be awesome. May you gain positive karma in your next incarnation.

update: this is taking longer than I anticipated:
1) I forgot the 4gb limit for fat32 partitions, and I can't copy the image on my flash drive (but I can compress it since a big section is free space)
2) right now, ubuntu is complaining that there are no default fonts installed.

Hopefully, It'll work tonight (fingers crossed)

NTFS? EXT3? Both of these work on Windows and Linux.

Success! scratchbox runs!
right now, I am packing the image (saves a few hundred megabytes), and I'll upload it. It will be up to you to extract it in the filesystem you want.

with my connection speed, I expect to be able to post the link tomorrow.

iliaden: You should ask andrewfblack who runs maemobox.org for an account, he'll probably be willing to help out so that you can put this file on a free server with good bandwidth, rather than one of those awful "free" filesharing services.

Alternately, I already have an account on maemobox.org, and I could put it there for you. My account is already burning the most bandwidth on his server, I'm sure your project wouldn't break anything...

Sweet. I neither have the skill or patience to set this up on Ubuntu. So this is like andLinux right? It runs Linux as a windows program, not a virtual machine?
