HI everyone,

I'm the happy owner of a N9 64GB. I use a samsung wall adapter, and the nokia DC-14 charger without any issue.
I bought 2 USB car adapter. As my wife's Samsung Galaxy Ace did not charge with both of them, I searched for the USB charging specs, and found that data pins must be shorten to have the USB charger recognized as a 'pure' charger.
I modded the USB car chargers, and the Samgung Galaxy Ace recognize them correctly.

But when I try to charge my N9 with those car chargers, they are recognized as computer (N9 switchs to USB mass storage mode) and then I have a message telling that the power provided is not enough, and the N9 does not charge.

Can someone help me ?

Regards,
Damien

Thank you, i'll try asap.
Is it compliant with USB charging specs ? because i have other devices that I'd like to charge with the same USB car adapter.

Did you also remove (or cut the connections to) the resistors that are usually connected to the data pins in apple-compatible chargers ?

I've modded several USB chargers to be recognised as pure (or dumb ?) chargers, by:

1: Shorting the 2 data-pins
2: Removing/unwiring any resistors between the datapins and +5 and/or ground

If one is modding a charger with a good old-fashioned female USB port, then there is no pin 5 to unwire ... you must be talking about modding a charger with a micro-usb plug ?

My car charger are with an old-fashioned (type A) female port, not a micro USB.
So I understand a bit more now, I need to cut any wire/resistor between data pins and ground (and +5).
I'll try on one charger and ensure that it still works with other devices, as Samsung Galaxy Ace.

If I recall correctly, the 5th pin for micro-USB is supposed to distinguish between a host and a slave device, and the d+/d- shorting is to distinguish between active and passive (charger only) devices.
