One of MS's aims is to push everybody into using an MS account and hence the old skype accounts are going to be obsoleted and older clients won't be able to login.

1 March is getting closer. Let's see if M$ will be on time :-P However I'd love them to be several years late...

It's not progress progress. If I understand it correctly, MS wants to do away with 2 sets of login servers hence push everyone onto using MS accounts login servers only.

It's more like a replacement since your vintage account would be ditched.

Microsoft tried to do this when they took over Hot Mail. They tried switching Hot Mail over to Windows servers and it was such a night mare that they ended up keeping Hot Mail on the Linux servers. Now they are no longer using Hot Mail email addresses you now get an outlook address.
My girl friend has a Hot Mail address, I am wondering how long until she has to change it.

Well today all my Skype contacts appear offline, and all Skype contact options have disappeared from their contact records, except for "Skype IM" which doesn't work. Anyone else seeing the same thing? I can still receive Skype calls, oddly enough.
