Yup its not a smsbackuprestore error; after all smsbackuprestore is just a front-end for Harmattan's own back-up mechanism so its the system itself at fault...

The above is what wwwfy explained to me when I asked him where the .db for messages was...

Has anyone used this similar program? SMSbackup

I am going to email the author to see if he has had any luck with importing Google and skype chats.

My memory may be fooling me, but I think I remember that my girl's N9 acted up some time ago displaying no messages in "Messages". From a backup (might be stock Backup, might be rsync, I don't remember) I saw that the SMS were stored in a sqlite file. I could confirm from a dump that her messages were all there. In the end, we didn't need it as the N9 got its act together again.

With that in mind, why do we need a binary tool at all? Also, having the dump as SQL takes care of character escaping and multiline messages automatically. It shouldn't even matter whether the messages were originally SMS, Facebook or Skype, or whatever.

Or did I dream it all up?

Thanks for the app, I was looking for something like that.

I've added a small GUI for backing the SMS up:

Source is available here:

https://github.com/harmattan/MeegoSMSBackupRestore

Binary is available here:

http://thp.io/2013/maemo/smsbackupre....3.1_armel.deb

Debian source package (use dget <url>):

Thankyou! Unfortunately the issue of backing up and restoring Gtalk, Skype and FB conversations still exists.

so, trying the new smsbackuprestore I get this repeatedly...

Code:
libqtcontacts-tracker: engine.cpp:1591: Not cleaning up obsolete resources for nao:hasTag property since the property's range is too generic (rdfs:Resource).
followed by the usual :
Code:
libqtcontacts-tracker: queue.cpp:104: The task queue's background thread stalled
I have tried to restart the command multiple times and rebooted. I used to get the "thread stalled" error and simply restart, now it's happening permantly.
