how do I install from the maemo download site or get other programms for my nokia n770 I installed 2008HACKER_4.2007.50-6_PR_F5 and it works fine but I want to install other apps to it also. Can anyone point me to the right direction? Also I did install some apps with app manager and only skype is not working at all with it. does maemo have an address where I can poke it in and have all the apps coming from the site on my phone and can install them.

If it is just skype you're after, you might try: Skype on N770

For Skype, I've found that OS2007HE, 4.2008.7-1 works better.

Apps to install for Skype:

becomeroot (needed to gain root access to change permissions on skyhost)
osso-xterm (an xterm shell, for typing commands)
skype-ui (already comes with OS2007HE)
vim (for editing files, if needed)

Or you can install Gizmo5 through their website, which just installs without any magic. You'll get this app:
