1. Stable browser, should be able to display 99% of pages (now is like 90%)
2. Faster CPU, at least double
3. 1024x600, 4.5" or 5" screen
4. longer battery life, at least 5-6 hours, a bit heavier is acceptbale.
5. A scroll wheel !! very important for browsing. current controller is a joke.

Three things wrong with your requests...
2. Faster CPU, at least double
3. 1024x600, 4.5" or 5" screen
4. longer battery life, at least 5-6 hours, a bit heavier is acceptbale.
First, a faster CPU and longer battery life, will just not work. The CPU we have now is actually perfect. If it were any faster, the battery life would be absolutely crap!

As for the larger screen, Why such an odd resolution? I can understand 800x600, but no, not that.
And with a 5'' screen, do you expect it to fit in your pocket? I don't think so...

Sounds good to me. I would add:

6. Non-Microsoft OS

to the requirements though, just to be sure.

Have you seen the Sony Vaio UX50?

http://the-gadgeteer.com/review/sony...sonal_computer

Runs XP though and isn't quite pocket sized!

Just more RAM and a dedicated mpeg/audio chip would make the device almost perfect. And I am wishing for sim card slot too, but it maybe too much to ask for.

Maybe not.

I don't want to start any rumors here. I'm just speculating.

While trying to get my ext2 filesystem mounted I stumbled across this block of code in /etc/osso-af-init/af-defines.sh:

# Mount point of the MMC
export MMC_MOUNTPOINT='/media/mmc1' MMC_DEVICE_FILE='/dev/mmcblk0p1'
echo `uname -m` | grep "armv6l" > /dev/null
if [ $? = 0 ]; then
export INTERNAL_MMC_MOUNTPOINT='/media/mmc2'
export INTERNAL_MMC_SWAP_LOCATION=$INTERNAL_MMC_MOUNTPOIN T
fi

The "armv6l" suggests a new hardware platform and the definition of the environment variable "INTERNAL_MMC_MOUNTPOINT" suggests an internal MMC slot like a sim card in a cell phone.

Again, I'm just speculating but it's got me thinking...

An SD or CF slot!

Actually, a faster CPU wouldn't have to affect battery life one bit. You can make (at least Intel) ARM CPU's throttle down when not using the full effect. The Fujitsu-Siemens LOOX 720 that has been my main PDA for a long time now has a power-save mode that drops the MHz way way down for non-CPU-intensive stuff and then maxes it out to 520MHz when needed. Works great.

1024x600 would be good. I'd prefer 3096x1800 though in a 3.5 inch size - obviously with fonts scaled up to where they looked readable anyway. 1024x600 would be a nice widescreen variation on the XGA 1024x768 res.

Then add a graphics accelerator too for real gaming and to offload movie viewing and you'd have a great little pocket computer.

You're technically correct, in that if you chose to never take advantage of the faster CPU, then you would never lose any battery life because of it. But that would be totally pointless.

If you increase the CPU speed, you're going to decrease the efficiency. If the increase in performance is merely for UI snappiness and it doesn't actually let you get stuff done faster, then it is arguably a bad idea.

The 770 has very, very good dynamic speed control. It's so good that the CPU is actually running when you put the lid on. Not sleeping. Running. It'll last for a week or more in that state. It turns the clock off for a few milliseconds at a time when you're not doing anything.

Regarding graphics acceleration - the DSP already accelerates movie viewing...
