I couldn't find much info on the n900 bootmenu. Not a thread in http://talk.maemo.org nor on http://wiki.maemo.org but just info randomly scattered about. Would anyone else be interested in helping create a wiki page?

I ask because there are a few boot situations I want:

1.) Default Maemo from NAND
2.) A console to boot into if I screw things up
3.) A bootable easy-debian on /dev/mmcblk1p2
4.) An alternate maemo5 on /dev/mmcblk1p3 (for safe testing)
5.) Android 2.2 on /dev/mmcblk1p4 (NITDroid?)
6.) Mer? Moebilin? Meego? Whatever else comes to mind.

Installing the bootmenu package gives me a menu when I boot with the keyboard open. How do I configure this menu? How do I open a terminal from here? What needs to be done to enable usb-networking? What needs to be done for ssh to work?

I'd also be interested in how the bootmenu works. Is there source code available? What possibility is there of u-boot working? Or better yet, grub? I know these questions have been asked before in various other threads, but I thought it would be easier to read if they were all consolidated in a wiki page.

Any pointers would be appreciated thanks.

I don't know much about how the bootmenu works, but it's sitting on top of NOLO, the NOkia bootLOader, which is closed source.

what does it mean "sits top of NOLO"?
Is NOLO loaded first, or after bootmenu or bootmenu replaces NOLO?

what is then u-boot? what is a difference between two?

where in NAND these different boot loaders are located? /dev/mtd* ?

when selecting different OSes in either boot menu, does it just switch to right kernel and rootfs without doing any flashing?

(I know this info is scattered around t.m.o. but as the OP with search nothing thorough documentation could not be found.)
