To you list I would add "Very portable X11 server". I have a work-related need for that.
Every Android X11 server I've tried has been vastly inferior to using an N900.

Joerg, nice to see you participating in the thread again, it has been tumbleweed for a while. Communication is key, I have to admit I had pretty much written the project off!

Best of luck!

Exactly!
I know communication on IRC was/is alive. But I guess very few peeps here follow there.
So communication here, tmo, is the key (besides neo900.org).

Nevertheless I personally do not expect that device to appear before BER . Still eagerly waiting but not holding my breath, anymore (looks like I have to go the evil way ... soon (TM)).

Perhaps I am not being clear enough with what I am trying to suggest NX500..I am not saying we need maemo os to run on 86_64 handheld to survive. I am suggesting migrating our os from the handheld form factor to the laptop and desktop form factor to more easily preserve, maintain, and update ...not to mention utilize the benefits of whatever distro we can piggyback off of ..buntu is going straight back to gnome ...that may make it easier for maemo work with...debian for sure would be the other obvious bet...
If it is possible to slide the appearance and visual function of maemo over top of buntu or debian....then for all intents and purposes it is a offshoot distro..a respin ..whatever one wishes to call it...
I infer that it would be easier to develop for, maintain, update, upkeep, draw new users to, and wait and bide our time to move back to arm ..or better if such exists then...when handheld devices in the near or distant future are conducive to migrating to ..and there is no fear of extinction due to lack of compatible device lines ..
The effort involved migrating maemo os to just one other device ..or device line is an epic undertaking...that is if it is successful.
I am suggesting breaking maemo out of the arm box ...and out of the most obvious reason for the threat to our survival.
Safe as a proper distro ... we have more breathing room, more chance to not just survive but gain new members..
and we can pick the time and devices of our choosing to work on getting maemo back on arm or whatever handheld option that appears compatible then....
We have the luxury of time...
But it doesn't look good for maemo os survival if things continue as they have with...
1- no device to move the os to...
2- or extremely limited numbers of possible devices and / or extremely limited physical units.

AND ...even if we manage to find a device to migrate maemo os to ...it is purely a stop-gap measure...until that device or device line ages a few years down the road...
and then we are back to square one again...
It is an inevitable losing battle...
Sooner or later we won't make the next device jump.

due to our needed requirements ..which are hamstringing us..
I suggest breaking out of the handheld box...for the survival of the os.
If it doesn't work so well with touch or stylus as a distro on a laptop or some laptops ..that is small sacrifice ...that need be tolerated until we do have compatible handhelds again on the market.

And with that explained ...
I apologize the hijack of this thread...
and back to relevant neo issues.

Seems that's pretty much what maemo-devuan is all about.

I haven't kept track of the maemo-devaun project ...if that is the purpose of it ..then I am glad it is being undertaken .
It is a sane precautionary measure..
I will have to sit down and spend the night reading up ..

In fact stupid me ..I forgot to mention along with ubuntu and debian..distros ...
there is an os that could make things much easier for such work...
Bedrock OS is meant to run stuff from any distro ..together ..compatibly ..
that strikes me as being far more flexible and yielding to maemo os needs..
