Hey everyone, glad to be a new member of this community!

Got myself a N900 at a really cheap price, and so far love it (after previously owning good old palmos, windows mobile, android and even my brother's iphone for a bit).
I think I'll keep this one for a verrryy long time (:

I had about 1000 questions before I registered, but found the solution to most of it myself after searching for it, however there are some that I'm still stuck on, so any help appreciated and apologies if I'm breaking the rules by posting these quick questions.

-does shockwave flash player work? I've tried a site http://www.isketch.net but it tells me I need shockwave (even though it's in the addons and on)?

-regular n900 users, does increasing the cpu for daily use greatly decreases battery life? or is it a minor difference? apparently 850mhz is a reccomended amount but what are your thoughts?

--is installing NITDROID very similar to installing Easy Debian? I installed Easy Debian on eMMC and the installation was so simple and easy.

-Does Preenv/Webos/NITDROID games support multiplatform multiplayer? for example I can play with iphone or android users if we have the same game on bluetooth/wifi (so far only had time to download Blades of Fury for Webos, but apparently this version was 1.0.2 and didn't have multiplayer, and webos might not have version 1.1.3...)

-On Mupen64, how do I open a game without gui? I know that I have to type in the terminal "mupen64plus --nogui" but where do I go from there?

I do have one more very interesting question but I think it deserves it's own thread and will post it soon!

Thanks for reading this and anyone who can help me with the questions!

Welcome! You seem to have the right attitude and should have a lot of fun with your N900.

Forget about shockwave

For information about Overclocking and undervolting, read

http://wiki.maemo.org/Overclocking#Overclocking

Jakiman's guide, which is linked to from the above, has some information that might be easier to understand.

The upshot is that you can increase clocking speed and DECREASE power usage.

These days, I would recommend 805 mhz, not because of any danger from overclocking (there is virtually none, experience from the N900 on this site indicates), but because SmartReflex doesn't work with a higher setting and it seems to be the best way to save on power usage.

Forget Nitdroid, it's not worth it. Doesn't make phone calls yet, for one thing. It's harder than Easy Debian, and less useful. It's like a talking dog -- it's amazing that it works at all, but doesn't have much interesting to say.

hey there new member

this game seems to work
its a shockwave game.
http://www.freegamez.be/speel/Pis-Ballon.html
maybe the shockwave player is too old for the website you are trying to access?

i overclock my phone when i need to.
for example when i play psx games watch movies online, play flash games.
but i cant overclock to higher than 950mhz.

nitdroid installation should be easy
theres a thread for it:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Nitdroid_easy_install_on_EMMC

yes preenv games support multiplayer with any phone

just install the newest mupen64plus .
it doesnt need anything else to be installed.

Thank you both for your help! I got mupen to work and got preenv to play with other phones multiplayer just fine.

For shockwave, I wouldn't normally look for shockwave game, haha. I guess I should've been more specific and said www.isketch.net is the only thing I'm trying to get working from it, it's my favourite online pictionary game out there, and there isn't many good alternative out there. but oh well it was worth trying at least.

thanks again!

Could someone explain what is overclocking in short layman terms please? I read through this link about overclocking (http://wiki.maemo.org/Overclocking#Overclocking), but it seems to be all about how to do it than what it is ... thanks

Overclocking is just running a system (often just the processor, but other chips can also be overlocked) at a higher frequency (clockspeed) than it is intended to do. This means it can perform a given task in a shorter time. Doing this can cause damage to the chips though (it used to be mainly due to overheating, but nowadays the chips will usually automatically reduce power or shut off before overheating and the main issue nowadays is electro-migration).
