I'm sure that I have read of people using clear coated nail varnish on the silver area whilst browsing the web. Not my favorite idea though.

Other than a case, I would also think of buying a spare screen protector and cutting it in to shape?

Really wish I had thought of protecting the area around the N9's camera sooner.

I had scuff marks on it after my first day of ownership after putting the n9 down on a less then smooth wooden table.

Now I see that if I had starting using the silicon cover that came with the N9 right away, I would have been partially protected since with the case on, the chrome-like area around the camera is slightly recessed, and therefore protected.

Screenshield has a protective foil especially made for the silver frame.

Believe me, it can happen in the blink of an eye and that silicon cover can make all the shock absorbing difference.

It does not have to be? You can always make a template out of a piece of paper with scalpel and scissors first. Once you are happy with the shape, place it on the screen protector plastic and cut around.

The whole process would not take 10mins at the very most.

Scratches give it a vintage look. Just collect some more.
I scratched my silver area the first day, too. It cannot be avoided.
