Looks like some ex-Nokians decided to make some Meego continuation:

Any idea if they plan to collaborate with Mer? Otherwise it'll be wheel reinvention in the N-th time.

Good news then! Looks like they are working on a handset release. Plasma Active didn't focus on it so far. Any idea if they'll use closed UI and applications as Nokia did or they'll work on some open stuff? Would be interesting to see if they'll push some open devices to the market. Making hardware is not a small feat. I guess they don't have factories like Nokia, so they'll be working with some other vendors.

You'll have to wait and see for now. Or ask @jollamobile and see if you get an answer.

In terms of community involvement, if you'd like to help out in the Core area of Jolla Mobile - which uses Mer Core, you're more than welcome to visit http://www.merproject.org and contribute.

Contributions that go into a open source project can be used by yourself, not only Jolla Mobile, and even other companies/projects!

If you go here: https://www.facebook.com/NokiaN9Lovers

You will see this post by the admin:

Today the world has seen a new chapter in the MeeGo Saga. The Word JollaMobile has filled Twitter streams everywhere (well to MeeGo people at least).

Jolla Ltd. is a Finish company that has continued the work that Nokia had started with MeeGo and has been developing a new smartphone product including the OS since the end of 2011.

So what is JollaMobile:

This OS has evolved from MeeGo OS using Mer Core and Qt with Jolla technology including its own brand new UI.

The ultimate goal of this project is to design, develop and sell new MeeGo based smartphones to be revealed later this year.

*** These guys will develop their own MeeGo devices & create their own UI, so do not expect them to produce firmware updates for your N9s & N950s. Other than that, it's great to see that MeeGo is still alive & will keep evolving. Go MeeGo! Long Live the King! \m/

-------------------

Look at the note with the 3 stars, we, as Nokia N9 owners,
will NOT receive firmware updates anymore according to the post.

Well, if their UI will be open, community can port it to N9, since Nemo Mobile works there with Mer.

If they use qt-component as UI layer there is no point porting it imho.

or more this, I hope they base it on qt-component to make it easyier to forwardport from n9 to theyr device. That way both users of n9, and mosy important in bussiness, jolla wins on it because more apps from begining, more customers and community who doesnt have to rewrite theyr apps yet again..
