I was reading about Ubuntu Touch using "flipped" images, where the base is now Ubuntu OS running Android inside an LXC container. I wondered if this would be something we could look at doing to support Android apps.

LXC was introduced in Linux 2.6.27 but wasn't fully functional. Fixes were introduced in 2.6.29 to make it fully functional. As the kernel version is close, I would imagine (not looked) that it would be easy to back port the fixes.

Not really much of difference versus using a chroot. You still need an Android kernel, for example...

As in building Android specifics into host kernel?

As in "the android kernel that matches the android user space you're going to use it with". Not the Maemo Linux kernel.

Lame question, probably, but couldn't it be (ab)used to run some android programs via Nitroid *without* leaving Maemo at boot time? I.E kind of chroot'ing to Nitroid, with or without using this LXC container.

Personally, I would like to use one or two Android programs (games, slices of X-Plane, that we're not available on WebOS, despite using exact same engine etc.). It was never enough motivation to go through Nitroid PITA, but running it "contained" within Maemo would be a different thing.

that was my idea, but as stated javispedro, it wouldn't work with Maemo kernel.

if you can get a kernel into a fit state so that it works with Maemo and android, with a compatible version of android userland in you chroot/lxc container, then it may be possible.

Guys, what do you think about apps like "Chomper" or "chroid" for WebOS?

I may be wrong, but wasn't it possible to use kernel-power (modified or not) with Nitroid? Nitroid would be the "compatible" userland.
