Okay, I got tired of the pink borders and things not working, soI flashed the OS onto my N900. This is the first time I have flashed this device (the PR 1.2 OTA worked as advertised).

So I followed the steps, powered off, held the 'u' connected to my Linux box, and did the flash

Code:
sudo ./flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin -f -R
The flash completed, and the N900 rebooted. It came up to the screen with the "KITT screen", the 5 dots with the light running between them. It has been in this state for about 45 minutes. Is this normal? Should I flash again? Flash EMMC and then OS? Just wait it out?

Thanks,

its not normal
u need to reflash i think.

never flash emmc before flashing rootfs.
device should not be rebooted between flashing rootfs and emmc
i.e. -R need to removed from end of the command

Code:
sudo ./flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin -f -R
follow the instructions given in wiki

http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

hope that solves ur problem

Ok, according to the page above, I should never have to reflash my emmc.

I flashed again, and it is doing the same thing (though only for 5 minutes so far). Suggestions?

If you have 5-dots forever, it means that device doesn't pass phone lock check. It may happens because of failed CMT image in phone chip. But it also may be because of failed battery or faulty USB (which includes uSD and eMMC).

So, remove mSD first, then try to reflash an early version and then PR1.3. Finally, as last resort - reflash eMMC. And try it with/without SIM too!

EDIT: try to remove and reinsert battery too. Too much explanations but it may trigger a different software path in devlocker.

EDIT2: if that helps - please vote for bug https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10998

Thanks egoshin. I will reflash it again. I have pulled the mSD (which, as you probably suspect, I forgot).

Update: Flashed again, and it is still doing the same thing. Also note that I checked the md5sum for the .bin image and it checked fine. Headed out to get the eMMC for PR1.3, but as you can see below, it says CMT flashed successfully:

I tried with and without the sim card. Same deal...

The version of the eMMC that I found on the site was RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin, which was the same one that I downloaded back in July when I bought the device.

Here goes nothing...Again.

Update: It worked! I had to nuke and pave the eMMC, but I'm back and should have good backups of the configs and /home/user. Then its a matter of getting the apps installed again. Probably a much slimmer list this time though.

Thanks to all who were available to help!

This is an OLD content of CMT - the same as PR1.2.
The reason why it is in PR1.3 image because it should include everything

Glad to see you resolve an issue.

Does this mean that I should reflash PR1.3 again to get the new stuff? I haven't installed anything, my N900 and my wireless access point are not yet on speaking terms. I haven't had time to see which is at fault...
