just noticed lately that something weird is happening to my phone. The phone will function normally; make and recieve calls without problems, surf the net with ease. But the clock will not show the correct time on the desktop status bar; and opening the status bar only shows a blank rectangle with none of the buttons visible ie. bluetooth status, internet status,battery. Clicking in the correct area will open the correct status.The downside is the battery status is wrong and if I don't catch it,I will run out of battery life before I can reboot.
I do have Mattan modified-hildon-home and desktopplus, but the problem seemed to start after a failed attempt to update Conky.
Any and all help welcomed.

Did you reboot to restart all the hildon desktop stuff, just to be sure there is no minor desktop crash responsible for that?
