Wow this community is one of the most cynical bunch around with a highly exaggerated opinion of itself. I say good for Mr. Elop!

Good for Mr Elop, really? So you think it is good he is screwing up Nokia for personal gain? If that is his motivation, it is sociopathic behaviour, and it is not doing the job he is employed to do. It wouldn't be terribly surprising if it is the case because sociopaths are the type of people that tend to do well in the modern business would, but they generally aren't good for society as a whole.

There is the possibility that he genuinely thinks this is the best course for Nokia and isn't just looking out for his own personal finances over that of the company he is supposed to be running, but there isn't enough information for me to decide conclusively which it is. All I can say that on balance with what I know, the scales tip slightly towards him just being a selfish bastard not giving a **** about what happens to Nokia.

Nokia has a HUGE part in Fin GDP! this will effect an entire country.
I could care less about Elop's money.
At the moment he has NOTHING to lose coming in this deal. we(as a shareholder) take this risk for him. I say that he should have bought some Nokia stock if he really trusted this company. This combined with his Microsoft stock(and options i guess) makes this looks ugly.
to summarize:
having both nokia and microsoft stock - OK!
having only nokia stock - OK? (as this is a losing situation for nokia)
having only microsoft stock - WRONG!

After this news started spreading Nokia gave out information that Elop sold most of his MS shares before joining Nokia, but couldn't get rid of it all, since the strategic work started involving MS. He naturally hasn't been able to buy any Nokia shares for the same reason.

I guess currently his possible Nokia bonuses have much higher value than he could get from MS share prices.

The truth is that elop teeth are very long and his project is to become another kind of millionaire steve jobs, lol
