Wow! It is a really cool idea to implement "widget" through notifications! It is a way better than change .desktop file to simulate widget behaviour.
I don't think you should change anything in this behaviour - everything is perfect
BTW, is it possible to implement the same notification trick using pyside?

Maybe you can create a custom action in ProfileMatic for disabling timeout in certain conditions?

What is it?
dontgosleep is a small utility to temporarily disable the screen timeout (screensaver) on the Nokia N9/N950.
Features
Warning
Keeping the screen on and displaying the same image for long periods (probably at least some days) may cause screen burn, so don't do that. Click here to read the wikipedia article about this problem.

Usage / Screenshots
1. Touch the icon to launch dontgosleep. A message will be shown warning the screen should not be left on for too much time.
2. After the application is launched, the screen timeout (screensaver) is automatically disabled and a notification is shown in the notifications view.
3.Touching the notification enables the screen timeout and quits the application.
