There's nothing wrong with someone wanting to verify if something is a bug or not with other members of the community before filing it.

Anyone figured if its the device app or Yahoo itself? I have no way to test. I only talk to my girl on Yahoo, and asking her to do anything technical or to troubleshoot anything means I'm "working" and not paying attention to her, so...

Ask her to disable the smileys in her client and send that smiley again. You'll see what text it actually contains.

My opinion: there should really be a way to disable the smileys in Messaging, since I really hate picture smileys.

Yes, it is very Important for me to disable the Smileys also during writing SMS.

I want to know what I'm sending!

The most people have normal SMS clitents and will only see :-) instead of

I'd like an option to get rid of emoticons as well but I'm wondering if I filed a bug it might get closed with it's a feature.

this isn't so much an issue on the N900 side, but the receiving side. Evidently, the N900 is sending the wrong commands/characters for the zipped lip emoticon. It shows blowing kisses instead on the official Yahoo client.
