Hello out there,

Is it possible to store a SMS as draft at the N900 ?

You know what I mean. Begin writing, do somthing else, restart the device and after that open the draft and continue writing the SMS and send it.

I think Conversations is excactly what I ever want on my N95. But without Draft and "Folders" still hard to think about the practice usage.

It does not appear as though there is, no.

For a test I:
  1. began writing a text message
  2. switched away to the desktop
  3. powered off my N900
  4. powered my N900 back on
  5. re-opened Conversations and even chose to write a SMS to the same contact
There was no sign of the message I had begun before powering the phone off.

There's no "Save draft" option anywhere that I can find.

Is there really a need for such a feature on the N900? After all the N900 is meant to be an "always-on" device and it's capable of running multiple applications in parallel.

It works for me:

  • In Conversations, press "New SMS"
  • Write something in the body and choose a contact
  • Quit Conversations
  • Power off, and power on the device
  • Open Conversations, and press "New SMS"
  • The previous text, and the contact are there

Complementarily:
  • In Conversations, choose some SMS from the list
  • Write something in the entry text
  • Quit Conversations
  • Power off, and power on the device
  • Open Conversations, and choose the same SMS from the list
  • The written text is in the entry

There's even a database in /home/user/.rtcom-messaging-ui/draft.db where are stored.

Ah, so the critical detail is explicitly quitting Conversations before power off or reboot. That's good to know, though I don't know I'll ever need the feature.

so is any S60 phone. still, "save as draft" is one of the features I use most often. - not only to continue writing later, but also to save drafts as templates for things i write often.

Hmm... okay. In my opinion Templates should be included in a future firmware...

I agree that a draft folder is a handy tool. I use notes to type sms and then copy them into an sms when required.

While waiting for an app to come out for n900 making the sms/mms! menu something worthy of the phone, I'm sending the texts I'd usually save as drafts to a random number (one which won't accept sms). This way, I have them showing in my conversations menu and opening them there lets you ctrl-c and then cntrl-v into a new text. Saving drafts to different fony numbers putting them into 'draft categories' is also an idea.

I'm using the Note's & AbiWord applications to create/store any text as and when needed. From there text to be used in a convo is cut and pasted into conversations and vice versa for the reverse.

In my early days of ownership a draft folder facility was desired but there's always an alternative way to reach the same end goal. Hence i do the above, it's just as easy and versatile be it convo text or any kind've text.
