I like it!
As you mention trains, you may be interested in this augmented reality app - The Invisible Train

The Invisible Train is a mobile, collaborative multi-user Augmented Reality (AR) game, in which players control virtual trains on a real wooden miniature railroad track. These virtual trains are only visible to players through their PDA's video see-through display as they don't exist in the physical world.

Augmented Reality with markers was something I worked on as part of my MSc degree. That was waaay back in 2006 I guess, and I was using a Nokia 6600 at the time

In fact take a look at this AR QT wikitude video... maybe is closer then we realize, if it has been ported to QT as this video claims

We already had a thread about wikitude. It's written in Qt but because of the lack of a digital compass, the N900 will never get it.

Wikitude have even addressed the n900 on their "supported devices" page.

Unfortunately the N900 does not have a built in compass, so AR applications like Wikitude are not possible to run on this device.
Sorry,
Nicola

But is that Nokia's official position or just web rumours?

There is a swedish thread somewhere where is stated that the n900 has a digital compass, in fact another thread I found says that is there but they have not enabled.

The N900 does not have a digital compass.

There is no magnetometer in the n900.

I've done a bit of work with AR in conjunction with flash and papervision. I run a rental DVD delivery service, and the eventual aim is to be able to have a proper look at the DVDs as you would in an actual shop.

Check it out here:

And have a go here if you like:

Couldn't get it to work using the browser on the n900 though, how do you get flash to use the camera as a webcam?

I fear https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1889 holds your answer.

Similar to the digital compass situation, it appears this is something else you can't accomplish with the n900 . Hopefully you have another handset for testing this functionality.

Nice site by the way, I hope it does well

Aha, well it was something I was just testing more out of curiosity really, I think the combination of screen size and seemingly slow performance of 3d stuff in flash would make it not really uselful..

I really want the emporiverse up and running though:
http://www.videoemporiumdelivery.co....mporiverse.swf

This is just a demo of how it looks, but how it will work is you'll start off at your favourite film, and be surrounded by a load of films related to that, either they've been directly linked by other customers, or same director, same keywords, actor etc, clicking on a title will allow you to see more detail, move to that title to get recommendations based on that etc... a proper little explore...
