I just tried to convert the .bin files from Nokia N9 Firmware to .iso (with idea then open and edit),but the program MagicISO gives an error by converting...maybe Firmware for N9 is brotected against opening/editind...how do you think?
Second question - can we stop sending a SMS to Nokia after flash?

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,
Ivo

They are not protected AFAIK but they can't be re-packed to boot into normal, not open, mode without having a master signing key...

Nokia only...

Actually Sparsify can convert your device's rootfs image to a jffs2 for you to edit/mod but the Script is not on the original server and the dev too has forgotten about it...

Edit: Alternatively you can use dd&of to convert your phone's rootfs into a 4GB .img file...However, why do you want to edit it? Isn't it better for a stock flash image to be available for all and you can mod whatever you want above it?
Also knowing your talent I would like to request you to see if you can make improvements of the kernel itself which would be awesome... Link: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=86543

Bad...modding Symbian is so easy...MeeGo seems impossible...
What's about my second question?

I don't remember a SMS being sent to Nokia after a flash; maybe I'm wrong as I've last flashed quite a few months ago (during pr1.3 release)...

Actually modding Harmattan is easy too (IMO easier than Symbian)...Its just all above-board instead of editing the rootfs...

Hi

I'm sorry to bother you, but you told that symbian is easy to modding. I'm a little newby but read a lot of forums about it. I have an E51 nokia I'd like to import some more T9 languages and/or OP languages, but T9 is important.
I tried to modding with nokiacooker. I tested with just a rington deleted and it's broke my fw. And I tried with NokiaFirmwareEditor. It told me that my ROF is protected and modding will brik my fw.

so my question: Is it possible somehow modding my E51? Delete, or preinstall apps? It's an old phone I don't beleive that nobody found a way to break or bypass this protction.

Thanks for your help
