It is now possible to use your maemo.org account for registering and logging into meego.com through the magic of OpenID.

Go to meego.com and click login, choose "Log in using OpenID", and enter your maemo.org OpenID URL (which you get from http://maemo.org/openid/):

maemo.org will then verify that you allow it to share your info with meego.com:

once you confirm you'll be happily logged into MeeGo services using your maemo.org identity

Account registration using the information provided by your OpenID provider failed due to the reasons listed below :

Use only letters a-z and/or digits 0-9 for username
That's bad!

That seems to be a limitation in either the meego.com setup or in Drupal's OpenID consumer.

I'll bring that up in tonight's IRC meeting on MeeGo's web services.

Hmmm.. I entered:

http://maemo.org/openid/id/cddiede

And all I get is:

Sorry, that is not a valid OpenID. Please ensure you have spelled your ID correctly.

Note that this is the maemo.org account, and not the talk.maemo.org account, so make sure you have one of those as well. You're also missing the trailing "/" that bergie had on his.

Seems to be a limitation of meego.com since even using the standard subscription I obtain the same message.

Thanks Rob1n, it was the lack of a trailing "/". Now I'm in.

Please ensure that you use the full URL (we're working to ensure it works with partial URLs too) in pattern http://maemo.org/openid/id/username/

If you had already registered to MeeGo website before, you can associate your existing account there with your maemo.org account in in OpenID Identities tab of My Account.

I dont understand this openID concept.
does this mean that if Im logged onto maemo.org then anybody can just log into my meego.com account ?
since meego.com checks the openId provider.

It simply means that MeeGo can now use your maemo.org login session (via the OpenID protocol) for registration and authentication, so you don't need to maintain your information (and passwords) in both services.

Each user has a personal URL (in format http://maemo.org/openid/id/username/) that are the ones that get connected to a meego.com account. So only you can use your maemo.org OpenID.

Here is some more information about OpenID: http://openidexplained.com/
