I used to be "dgpretzel".

Last month I attempted to post a message asking about places to buy a 770 (CompUSA was all out of stock). My post was rejected as spam, and I was immediately locked out. Several requests over the past few weeks to be reinstated have been ignored, so I re-registered.

I would suggest that the spam prevention software is way too aggressive, and there seems to be no way to appeal its action.

Regards,

DG

I get locked out (as dgpretzel), and the board administrators continue to this very day to keep me locked out, for posting a message inquiring where I might purchase an N770.

Spammers pitching Viagra are permitted.

I fail to understand.

i noticed that too.
spam postings are not recognized as spam.
users asking a question are labled as spam.

1) spam software recognizing spam as spam: the goal
2) spam software not recognizing spam as spam: we have to live ith that
3) spam software recognizing no spam as pam: BIG NO!

so please adjust the oftware or disable it. as long as point 3 happens this software is more harming the users than helping them.

We have a long list of spam words and phrases that the system checks whenever a post is made. Sometimes, URLs ona post are found in the list, tagging the post as spam immediately.

For new spam posts however, whenever we delete them, we add new keywords to the spam word/phrase file so it would learn the next time.

You can find all the tagged posts on the following link:

We are doing our best to get rid of spam posts. It's not easy. Thanks for reporting problems to the system since it lets us fine tune it.

Thanks Reggie for still minding the shop for us... We all know what kind of a job that is, and need to be grateful someone's doing it :-)

I completed Nokia's user poll in the RSS reader this weekend, and at least the "preferred tablet-related site" question was easy... :-)

As a side note, is there any hope that this forum's "PDA style" skin will be upgraded some day, especially the Search views ?

TIA,
fpp

Yes, I thought that too. I looked at the list and the link to the FTP site on that post was the one causing it. I did remove the ftp url from the list and reactivated the user.

Thanks all.

I recommend using these two pieces of software to battle email harvesters/spam posting bots:

http://danielwebb.us/software/bot-trap/
A nice little bot-trap script.

Project Honeypot
http://projecthoneypot.org/

+ use the data from http://projecthoneypot.org/top_harvesters.php (download the RSS feeds and grep out the IP's to ban. Used together with the bot-traps unban function it allows real people who use huge open proxied that might be blacklisted by project honeypot to unban themselves)

I'm using these two on my sites and have seen, and see an incredible amount of stupid bots fall into the bot trap or end up on the 403 page because they are banned by project honeypot.
