I just got a Motorola DEXT for $100, its the perfect back up phone.
It's basically an iPhone 3G, but with a decent qwerty, better camera/memory and a much better OS (CM7 - 2.3.4).

I previously also got a Motorola Milestone for $200 -> Gift.
I missed out on purchasing a HTC Desire Z for $250.
I would've paid much more for the EPIC 4G if it had GSM-3G radios, stupid Samsung!
Now I'm just waiting for a decent dualcore qwerty upgrade, Milestone3 looks promising if it comes with unlocked bootloader+rootable and 1GB of RAM.

From what I've read, the Droid 3, AKA Milestone 3, has 512MB RAM. Wish I was wrong...

1ghz and 512mb ram for a s40 phone is crazy. Won't that compete with wp7? Even if it comes next year.

makes perfect sense with Nokia's strategy for the 'next billion', powerful cheap s40, Qt.

Here are some articles:

1GHz/512MB on S40? I kind of like the idea. With Qt it could make a phone with an appealing UX, killer battery life, reasonable price.

I saw the 512mb commenting too, what a waste!

I know 512MB is actually HEAPS & HEAPS & HEAPS of memory, but I see so many ineffeciencies within Android and from Android Apps, that it will be necessary to have 1GB RAM in the future for some applications (especially powerful ones we'd all want to use), so they've not really future-proofed it.

I just want the next generation Milestone future-proofed:
1) Rootable
2) Unlocked Bootloader (within 3months of availability)
3) 1GB RAM
4) All regular features like ffcamera, gyro
if possible:
5) Made with common sense (have the volume rocker on right side, have camera button, have webtop/lapdock access)

there are rumors a n801
1ghz 512mb ram, n8 camera, better screen. being released too. with symbian belle end of the year.

then symbian belle update later 2012
My guess symbian belle == Harmattan Swipe UI and if we take a look at QT-components on symbian and Harmattan its almost the same. except some theming.

Gawd daaaaaymn. At that spec point, why don't they just stick a dumbed-down version of harmattan in it? If they are killing S60 and want to compete with low-end androids, and make high end faturephones (I assume at a 250 euro price range) put maemo on it, make it more foolproof/ battery and small screen friendly than the N900, and you blow away pretty much everything at that price point.

I guess S40 is a "tighter fit" of an OS for the purpose (less overhead from the engineerig pov). And, how realistic would it be using Harmattan on ARM11 anyway?
