It did not dawn on me what Live CD Distribution was the first few times I read it in this thread, but when you said it just now it dawned on me what it is - yes, that would be a viable solution for a patch, but apparently I won't need it!

The Windows Flash utility cannot apply patches, for this you need the Linux flasher (if you don't have Linux, consider a Live CD distribution or VMWare).
