no you don't, just set up "GPS Unlock timeout" at settings screen as "At once" for immediate gps shutdown when nelisquare goes background, or "30 sec" for 30 sec timeout.
While at background, nelisquare doesnt drain battery: only for feed updates are performed with the interval which you have selected.

Ok. I wonder if you would set swipe down to minimize like wazapp where you don't exit the app but stay in background. Furthermore, I wonder whether we could set update interval say 30 minutes and 1 hour. It's nice to get updates but I don't think some would need as frequent as say 10 minutes

currently - no wait for next alpha i'll add 10/30/60 min intervals.
And i'm working on new settings screen, so you will be able to setup any update time and many other options

Thanks, I hope it's not too strange to ask for "minimized" view of a running app. Having 2 x 2 view of my background apps, I appreciate that background app doesn't take up the the space all the time

a question for maemo5 users of nelisquare:

what "event feed" apps do you use/prefer?
As @gianko suggested I'm implementing feed integration with "Hildon Event Feed" application http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=87169

Any other suggestions?

New beta version with blackjack and notifications and home screen feed integration is out

Feed at home screen contains all the information: photos, comments, likes etc.

Notifications are shown as usual.

If nelisquare does not running atm, it will be started after tapping notification. And ofcourse it will load the corresponding screen

At settings page you can enable or disable notifications and eventfeed

If you got red squares like shown below, just restart nelisquare

I have changed caching mechanics, so at first run meego won't load any images for the feed
I guess it will be fixed before stable version will be out

And GoodNews for n900 users
Beta for maemo5 with feed and notifications is almost completed, i hope it will be released tomorrow.

yeah i was asking for feed notification, like Sociality (that use libnotify maybe?) but kent_autistic suggested to use hildon event feed...

i tried to use Hildon Event Feed, i'd like to use it for facebook feed and twitter maybe, but im a newbie...and i just tried to run the example scripts in /home/user/Event\ Feed/examples/

actually i tried to run from terminal the youtube script with /.get_youtube_videos <word to search>

and as a result i saw some numbers list in the terminal then it stops but nothing appears in the hildon event feed app nor in the widget

same as for the rss feed script

maybe somebody can point me to the right usage? thanks

For now you can't but i will try my best to add all requested features
And you can use the following scheme instead:
make checking and write some shout text, then add a photo.
