You guys so hilarious the USB door or latch whatever it call, its actually made by polycarbonate. The metal thing that you are talking about is placed under it. If you disagree just look carefully or pull it straight up and you will notice.
Chipping is just one layer that look like matte black.

It started on the edges with mine as well - not on the USB-Door though.
