Have you read the Metro UX Guidelines?
Have you seen how Windows 8 with Aero Lite (square-y thing theme) looks like?
Too many colors, too many stripes (WP7 does not have stripes.)
See this, this is how WP7 would look like if landscape, 800x480 on the N900. (NOTE: WP7 doesn't actually come in landscape -- it's portrait only for the system UI)

While the Metro UI is only portrait only, the unpublished standards for WP8/Windows 8 have been shown to include landscape as well.
I'd not consider removing your endeavors... it's all in the spirit of having fun, right?
Anyway, found this resource that has a lot of the WP7 stuff on there to assist with your ideas.
