If I just flashed my n900 with the stock firmware (kernel 2.6.28-omap1) should I have any issues installing the v51 kernel? What is the exact name of the kernel if I were to do an apt-cache search?

Do I need to install the v50 and then upgrade to the v51 kernel?

How much current is safe to draw from the N900?

Safe is all, I.E. you can't damage anything even when shorting the VBUS and GND lines.
The boost converter however can deliver a max of 200mA and is supposed to throw error when that max current limit is tripped.
See my improved booston shellscript in http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...02#post1023402 and http://maemo.cloud-7.de/maemo5/usr/sbin/booston (should also be included in recent version of h-e-n already) - it will clearly notify you when you exceeded max current :-).
Please also don't miss to read #1 and #9 (http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=857) in this very thread!

cheers

I guess that gives me 10 LEDs to work with.
1.2v 20mA, 200ohm resistors.

or 30 LED (each 3 in series), with 70 Ohm series R (assuming the 1.2V is correct, which is usually not. Even red led have higher Ufwd nowadays. Blue and white up to >4V even)

http://www.mipaginapr.com/IR-940nm.doc

What would your preferred way of doing it?
I've got 75/180/200 ohm resistors.

So far I've just been running 6 and took this in pitch black:

Removed the IR filter from the N900 camera. Waiting for some IR filters to come in the mail to filter out everything else for day shots, also waiting for new module to come in the mail so I can fix the autofocus.

Hello guys. I have problem with h-e-n and usb connection. I installed, h-e-n, kernel-power, kernel-power-modules and kernel-power-flasher. My kernel version is 2.6.28.10-power51. I use cable micro usb > usb female. First i start h-e-n. It says "stopping BME". Second I connect usb and click high speed hostmode > vbus boost on > enumerate > mount after some time, maybe 20 seconds it says "unable to connect, no file system available" I can't find my device in /dev. There is no sr* or sd**. My USB is FAT32 2GB. What should I do ? Thanks for reply.

I suggest trying with KP47, maybe KP50 even. KP51 seems to have quite a number of strange issues regarding all USB related things (incl power-on)

though:
[2012-09-13 20:27:36] <kerio> h-e-n confirmed working in kp51r1
[2012-09-13 20:29:15] <kerio> hm, i'm getting weird messages about "port 1 not reset yet" in dmesg
[2012-09-13 20:29:24] <kerio> and then they stopped with "usb usb1: bus auto-suspend"
[2012-09-13 20:29:26] <kerio> after closing h-e-n
/j
