Hi folks,

Is there a good man which can help me with the CSSU installation on the Nokia N900 machine with such Maemo OS version: 10.2010.19-1.203.1

Is this even possible to install the CSSU on Nokia N900 with such old Maemo OS version? Please let me know as I did not played with the device since 2012 and right now I bought another Nokia N900 with an old maemo OS version and occurred a installation issue. Please see picture on the bottom of the post.

What I did so far in order to install the CSSU update is: I went through the device browser to the CSSU update website and I clicked the stable version imagine and the process has started, then the icon appears in the menu I clicked the icon and I occurred the installation issue. See the picture.

I started looking some solution here on maemo.org and I found that I have to perform the action through the x-terminal with fallowing command:
Code:
 apt-get update
 apt-get install mp-fremantle-community-pr
The above action won't help me at all, of course there happens some action in the terminal but the CSSU update won't install. The Nokias repo are disabled and all CSSU repo are enabled.

Any suggestion would be much appreciate, seriously I'm confused. Please give me some light in the matter. Thank you.

cssu is in the repos.
apt get installing will screw your n900 up...
pretty much forcing you to do a complete firmware reflash...

where did you find said instructions?
who said you should install cssu via apt-getting?

you didn't post the link to these instructions and where you got them...
pretty vague there....
in fact not vague...
non-existent...rather...

I suggest ...strongly...
that if you are unsure of something...ask...before randomly doing something ...

prepare to do a complete firmware reflash...
go to the wiki...
http://wiki.maemo.org/N900_The_Perfect_Setup
and follow...
exactly....
the proper instructions in the walkthrough there...

as is stated in the wiki cssu page which is linked to from the "perfect n900 setup" page when it is time in the instructions to install cssu....
"THIS IS THE ONE AND ONLY SUPPORTED AND TESTED WAY TO INSTALL CSSU"

As always for CSSU you should follow the instructions on the wiki page for your flavour of choice.
https://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU

You should be on PR1.3 or 1.3.1 first and you will need the nokia repos working to install system updates, aka 20.2010.36-2 or later

If your system is ready as above it's as simple as following the one click for your flavour from the wiki in the N900 browser.

You should use the default application manager for all updates.
I certainly have no idea where installing the metapackage with apt was advised.

Perfect Setup wiki page was a nice idea but is all opinion and pieces of wiki pages smashed together so see caveat at the top of its page.

If you need more back and forth advice and you are struggling with the wikis etc, there are plenty of helpful folk on #maemo IRC freenode.

Also just re reading the OP. You are better reflashing your device to PR 1.3 so you can start a fresh you have no idea what the previous owner may have installed.
https://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware
Its a pretty in depth wiki page so you may need a few reads before going for it. Best results are flashing from a Linux box.

Well, I found that solution here on maemo org. Here is the link https://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/Installation_FAQ

I did perform these commands as I occurred such issue upon installation attempt. Please see the quote below.

I can't update, as I get the message: TO UPDATE YOUR DEVICE TO THIS VERSION OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM YOU MUST USE NOKIA PC SUITE ON YOUR PC. CONNECT THE DEVICE TO YOUR PC VIA A USB CABLE AND LAUNCH THE APPLICATION.
In the past I did these actions with those commands on my previous Nokia's N900 and it was ok also installation were completely without any problems and devices were working fine, seriously I did this and it worked fine.

From time to time I buying another one nokia n900 when I miss so much the maemo and then I occurring every time another issue which comes with another bought Nokia n900, which drive me to crazy. Seriously this is not a random action, this is something which I did in the past with different bought Nokia N900 and it was fine. Then I playing with the device getting boring and selling then buying again and here we have another odds problems with CSSU installation.

Regarding the Maemo OS reflash, is this possible to do in these days when the main PC machine running latest Windows 10 OS, where I can find the proper OS ISO for the N900 which I bought two days ago. Is this even possible to do.

Well, I have an flasher 3.5 on my OSX laptop which I used it for flashing the Nokia N9 about two years ago as there was an outdated MeeGo version. I did this and I did nit brick the N9. Will this flasher work with the N900? If yes, that's mean I need to find the proper maemo OS version Only?
Would any one suggest me, what kind the maemo os version I will need to download. Please.

I would suggest 2 possibles if using windows...
Xp in a vm...
Or win 7 in a vm...
Or usb stick (possibly...I personally have never done it via a usb install of xp or 7...)
Or if you just happen to have 7 on a system ...it will work...
On 10 it should work ...though I haven't tried 10...
But with 7 and 10 both ...odds are you will need a couple of drivers installed so everything is recognized properly...
They should be available in the wayback machine save...with the firmware downloads...

Yeah...just plugging into 10 and expecting it to just accept the n900 and the pc suite properly...is unlikely...without those necessary drivers...
And even then...with 10...there may be other issues ...
I have not bothered attempting reflashing or pc suite with 10...yet....so I do not know all the probs possible...
This winter I may fiddle with 10 and firmware and pc suite.

Also...you could grab an old iso of ubuntu...that and the linux flasher does very well...ffffsomethingsomething (I can never remember the name of it)
I do not know if the very latest ubuntu handles the li nux flasher well or not....

Please, correct me if I'm wrong. In the next few lines I will present what I'm gonna do with the Nokia N900 running outdated Maemo OS with following OS number(10.2010.19 -1.203.1).

I found on this website:
https://www.fladnag.net/downloads/telephone/n900/
the latest ISO images eMMC and PR 1.3, please see below pictures of these images which I wish to use for re-flash/refresh N900 purpose.
eMMC ISO image file, 10.2010.13-2:
[IMG][/IMG]

PR 1.3 ISO image, 10.2010.36-2:
[IMG][/IMG]

I'm gonna to use the flasher-3.5 software running on the OSX machine with the following the same command line for both .ISO images:
sudo /usr/bin/flasher-3.5 -F <firmware-image> -f -R
I have only one concern regarding the full reflash/refresh the Nokia N900, if I will go with this reflash method called "eMMC aka *VANILLA*". I will use the following command line without last character "-R"
sudo /usr/bin/flasher-3.5 -F <firmware-image> -f
I will have to install the eMMC file first and then without booting device up straight install the PR1.3 .ISO file with the following command line:
sudo /usr/bin/flasher-3.5 -F <firmware-image> -f -R
Please let me know what I have to do in order to avoid the booting device up once the eMMC file will be installed. Do I'm correct if I will remove from the command line the last character "-R" before I start flashing the eMMC file?

The device will remain off once the eMMC file flashing will be finished and then I will able to install the PR 1.3 .ISO file right after eMMC file? During the PR 1.3 .ISO file installation the last character "-R" can be used in the command line, then once the flashing will be finished the device will boot up and then all will be working correctly?

Please, let me know your suggestions, before I will do something stupid. I will wait with the device reflash until someone much smarter than myself will confirm the above is a pretty much correct action and I’m good to go and do a N900 reflash. Thank you.

Hi,

I highly recommend this wiki. Read that through then perform the reflash.

Btw. I'm not able to check your links now so I do not know how trusted it is as for maemo OS image files; here is another trusted one.

From the wiki: "When flashing the eMMC content, the safe way is flash the eMMC/VANILLA image first, then remove battery for a moment, and then flash the FIASCO/Rootfs image. Do not boot up the device between the two i.e do NOT use the -R parameter at the end!".

It is a safe way, I've done it sooooo many times

When reflash is done then you can install CSSU.

Ok...
pawoolon...
you wanted to know if you were about to do something stupid..
well...
I wouldn't go so far as to say such words...
But...
ok...
you are about to do something stupid.

the wayback machine has everything you need firmware wise to do all that you need to reflash .

Go there.
the official builds are there.
other people's "saves" of this repository are nice...
I have them saved myself...
but it is unnecessary as long as the official ones are available...
I suggest you go there ...download them and save copies of your own in a storage ...for the future...as much as the present.
I do not suggest trusting someone else and any possible tampering they may have done.
As nice and reliable as they may be...
You don't know.

justmemory's link ..

is the self same link to the archve..
