I would like to use either the mobile Gmail page (preferred) or the iPhone (if I have to) version.

Gmail seems to not let me got to the mobile page (Tear is too Good!)

So how do I force Gmail to use the mobile version?

or make it think Tear is running on an iPhone?

Thanks

"Mobile mode - http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=mobile or http://m.gmail.com. This is a simplified Gmail interface for mobile phones that has even less feature than the basic mode. Use it if no other Gmail mode works for you.

iPhone mode - http://mail.google.com/mail/x/gdlakb-/gp/. A more user-friendly mobile version for iPhone and other mobile phones that use WebKit-based browsers."

He may be talking about this >> http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/07/g...ing-lots-of-f/
(which I read after my reply).

This looks like a recent demo said to be made possible through HTML5 standards using AppCache...
I don't know if Tear supports this. Android and the new iPhone OS 2.2.1 may.

If this uses local storage, it should be compiled in. Never tested it though.

@YoDude
Your first link was where I had been going & having issues: ie check boxes only 1/2 rendered & hard to click buttons. I have been using the basic html version but wanted a less wastefull screen layout.

That story was what prompted my wanting to use a 'mobile' version again, like I had with microb. Looks interesting.

@dkwatts

Thanks for the links! The mobile one is what I was looking for, I'll have to try the iphone version next

Again, thank you!

Just tried the iphone link... looks better than the mobile gmail site but has a big problem:

it does not like to scroll...returns to the top of the page almost immediately. Actively tries to return to top even while holding the scroll bar down.
Weird.

Oh Well, I didn't really want to artificially inflate the iphone stats anyway.

Yup, me too! That's when what I had read about userContent.css started to make sense...

The file /home/user/.mozilla/microb/chrome/userContent.css is read by the Microb webbrowser and allows to have custom rules for how to display certain elements on a page
I added
Code:

@-moz-document url-prefix(https://mail.google.com/mail/x/) {
  body {font-size: 150% !important}
}
to my userContent.css file with a text editor and it became usefull for me.

Weird.
Same problem here. I tried it both on MicroB with an iPhone and an Android useragent, and both "popped up" to the top of the page whenever I tried to scroll down (and Tear too).

Further testing: I tried it in a Mac on Omniweb 5.9.2, which uses Webkit too (like Tear), and has built-in (customizable for each page) browser spoofing, and the behavior using an iPhone useragent is the same as the tablet.

I also tried it using Safari 3.2.1 on the Mac, set to appear as an iPhone as well, and on Safari (and only Safari, among the browers I tried) the page works perfectly.

If it could be made to work with Tear or Microb, though, that would be wonderful.

Cheers,
Jon
