While working on the replacement clock, I noticed not all the timezones where up to date in the worldclock part.

One of the last modifications is the change of timezone of Samoa/Apia (jan 2012), but most likely some daylight saving changes have taken place also. And Tokelau/Fakaofo changed it's timezone to +13 that same date, to get more in line with New Zealand.

If have searched for a official way to update the timezone files on my N900, but found nothing of interest (correct me if I'm wrong).

That's why I started searching how to update the files, and ended up downloading official timezone datafiles.

-> Updated timezone files are now included in cssu! <-

Well, since this is system wide related and not just the (replacement) clock, I decided to put it in a separate thread.

Anyone decided to try it and willing to share their experience?

Code:
sudo gainroot
cd /usr/share/
cp /usr/share/zoneinfo /usr/share/zoneinfo-bak
unzip /media/mmc1/timezone_files_2013.zip
Thanks for the bump, missed this the first time.

Just tried it
Seems to have caused the calender app to crash on startup and intermittantly while on desktop shows the same hildon banner.

Internal error Application "Calender" closed

The calender app works fine here, never experienced any issues in relation to the calendar. Could you reboot and see if you still have the problem?

BTW your copy command looks incorrect, as I would expect a "cp -r" to be used, else you would get "cp: omitting directory 'zoneinfo'"?

Reboot didn't work.
Seems I may have been silly and actually moved the files not copied
Could having no zoneinfo directory for a short time cause this?

Either way moving the backup back and rebooting has fixed.

FYI dbus-daemon in top was coming up when the error hildon banner did.

Moving is not the right way, as the zip file does not contain all files (like the symlink to localtime). it is just an update of most files.

Did you go back to the outdated timezone files, or are you now using the new ones? If you have the outdated files back, I would say give it a second shot

Yep, I spotted my error and how now succussfully merged the backup with the new files in zoneinfo.
All working great, thanks.

I assumed all the files necessary where in there.
