Great initiative !!!
I think albums covers take too much space and aren't necessary.
One line for song/album/artist informations and one line for controls.
or
Half width for song/album/artist informations (scrolling right to left) and half width for controls.

I like this Idea. It would be great and really very friendly to control the music. Thanks for sharing this idea. I hope someone will work on it.

There are few media players.Plugin should be working for all and i think this would be hard thing to do.
It can be done for default music player but i know many users who not using default player.For example : Me
I'm using flowplayer and it's better than default player.

as far as i know, i think that all players listen for scancodes of multimedia buttons, that way they should work with keypad on headphones...but, issue is to read what track is playing and progress of it...imho...also...is it playing or it's paused...

As have seen in Unrestricted System UI by MohammadAG, There is no limitation for doing things and adding useful stuff on the status bar.
So as I mentioned in the title I'm quite interested in a Music Player Control system in the status bar.
As I talked with MAG on twitter he said it's not gonna be a difficult thing and since the source is available on GitHub.com it would be easy for a developer to do so.
Anyone interested like me?
Some notes:
- It would be great if the controls appear when music is playing and disappear when not for saving the space and prevent any mess in the status bar
- It may show the album art and song name if there is any possibility on that case (same as N900's Music Player Widget)
