I had these white spots for a few months, and my screen completely gave up on Friday; it would power on but it wouldn't display a thing.

I hope the two problems aren't related, as I took it to Nokia today and I will be getting a replacement tomorrow.

I don't know if the OP has evidence, but I'm willing to say that it is a design flaw, I find it hard not to when the spots appear in the same place for everyone, and there is almost always three of them: middle, top left, left middle.

My 'spots' appeared two weeks after I had the phone, I took extra care of it: was always in a case, didn't let the phone get to hot or cold, and it wasn't over-clocked so I am quite confident it is not a error on my part.

It did get a very, very small knock, and not long after this I noticed them:
I had the phone standing with the kickstand which then fell forwards.

If my new phone, coming tomorrow, develops the spots then that will be evidence enough for me.

Would you call them a feature then?

I have the spots in exact same places and they appeared on their own after a few weeks of use.

so there are only 2 options:
  • design failure
  • feature

so no proof but still it must be design flaw?

I suppose a big patch of similarily flawed screens from supplier would be too far fetched?

e: and btw this isn't only for lcds. a friend bought 2500eur worth of led tv when those first came out. ....and the clouding was hideous plus he is still struggling with manufacturer and warranty repairs etc after a year...
