Hello Everyone,

I bought a used Nokia N900 last month and it already runs Maemo 5 cssu and has nitroid gingerbread as well.
I was wondering if you could help me with a few things.
First, I want to reflash the Nokia N900 as factory default. I have tried using the "clear device" and restoring the settings to factory default, however I want to everything to be in factory default.

I saw some posts regarding flashing the n900 but the thing is, most nokia n900 flashing guides have broken links/invalid links to the necessary files/apps like Maemo Flasher, rom, etc.

Also, one of the main reasons I wanted to reflash this device is because it's pretty much loaded (bloated) with apps used by the previous owner (games, emulators, etc.) which I don't really need, I intend to install freoffice, abiword, etc. However, application manager keeps on giving me an error whenever I try to download an application. It will start downloading the app but it will fail to finish downloading. I have tried disabling some repos, restarted the phone, disable auto-retrieve dns and manually assigning my isp's dns but nothing works.

Flasher here: http://skeiron.org/tablets-dev/maemo_dev_env_downloads/

Guide here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

Regarding the repos, that is an issue with extras-testing and extras-devel repos (hashsum mismatch error).
Open the catalogue, go to extras-testing and extras-devel, and change "distribution" from "fremantle" to "fremantle-1.3". Wait for the refresh, and you should be able to install apps normally then.

Thank you very much for that quick response.

I have a noob Question.
Does upgrading to CSSU have any drawbacks or problems?
Is it not compatible with any mainstream apps?
I'm really hesitant because I hear it's uninstallable.

thanks for the information. I didn't know that it was so highly recommended to get cssu on the n900.. I guess it makes sense. I've gotten more help from the community then i have from Nokia anyways.

I'm definitely not a tester so i suppose i should install the stable release... i can't even begin to understand the stuff written in the thumb section..

Stable it is then.

If it's a second hand device you have probably worth a re-flash to clean all the previous rubbish and user info.

CSSU updates are usually OTA and you will have a notification in the status bar appear when the update is ready.

Reboot if you haven't and the check to make sure you have installed CSSU.

Settings > About Community SSU > Version:

If installed updates will appear as notices in the status bar, yes.

A common mistake is people install "CSSU" named applications from the repositories thinking they are installing CSSU.
