Just out of curiosity, what's the very rough and obviously subject to change estimate for when prototypes and final devices are expected to be done? Are we looking at 3 months, 6 months, a year, longer?

http://neo900.org/#main says
The device is currently in development. Estimated release: Q3 2014.
Prototypes will obviously come sooner, but we have no quotable timeline for those yet

Oh wow I completely missed that Q3 2014 thing. Thanks.

Just to clarify, does Q1 start in January or in April?

Sounds like a silly question but here in the UK a "financial year" is often used in the business context and that coincides with the time to pay your taxes, which is in April.

Needless to say, it leads to confusion in interpreting delivery predictions

Finacial/fiscal year is per company for internal accounting purposes, and we don't use it. 2014 is a common year according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregorian_calendar

Hi P.!
the kbd layout is determined just by the keymat which is easily swapped even
on N900. So your question boils down to "can we find a AZERTY keymat for you?"
Alas I can't answer this question right now, we will see what's feasible and
what we will get when we source the mech parts.

cheers

PS: when you send us a AZERTY keymat, we of course can assemble the device with that one instead of whatever we'll use per default.
part number for french keymat: 0265855
some keymat links (sorry only few to no french ones, may change when you check again later. google for keymat N900 and the part number!):

A really nice article, and so true. For all of you "why can't we have ACME-CPU with 64GB RAM" fanboys: http://pandoralive.info/?p=2808 (and yet a nice read for all of you who already knew)

Really good article. But it raises another "fanboy" question, can you cooperate with Pandora and get better deal from TI, or OMAP5 is rejected because of battery life/compatibility/PCB space.

OMAP5 got rejected because of risk management: GTA04 is based on OMAP3, and fremantle runs on OMAP3, and it's still unclear if we could get a OMAP5 that would even fit into the case. Then we would need to do a complete new design instead of basing Neo900 on already proven-to-work GTA04 design. Then the question arises whether fremantle could get ported to OMAP5 SoC which is quite a bit different to OMAP3 SoCs. While Neo900 group doesn't do any software porting, it's still a major product spec key feature that Neo900 *can* run a ported fremantle.
And, on a sidenote: afaik Nikolaus is in close contact to the pandora guys since quite a while, he helped them recover from their manufacturing disaster.
