Final stab also for - IIRC - basically all alternative WhatsApp clients like yappari, yowsup, whatsup-purple, etc.pp. as they all use the Symbian protocol, right?

I found where my misunderstanding came from - I misread this post. The actual statement was that the Symbian protocol is not necessarily used as such, but used to reverse engineer the WhatsApp protocol - which will no longer be possible once the support has been dropped (and WhatsApp starts changing the protocol afterwards). The future will show...

nowadays whatsapp protocol is reversed using BB10 and android clients, symbian/s40 not used for that purpose for a while.
