The Register has interesting article about Meego, patents and recent Microsoft-HTC patent deal. Includes interview snippets from Ari Jaaksi.

Jaaksi, Nokia's vice president of MeeGo devices, told The Reg Tuesday that Intel and Nokia could "guarantee and promise" that MeeGo is safe from any and all patent claims because of the size and breadth of the companies' patent portfolios, and also because of the size of Intel and Nokia themselves.

EDIT: Seems like part of the message is that Google/Android can't protect you from litigation, so start making Meego devices instead.

On the subject of patents, I don't know if anyone remembers this (announced on the same day as the 770) but it seems relevant, particularly this bit:

Nokia also believes that a party should not enjoy use of Nokia's
patents and at the same time threaten the development of the Linux
Kernel by assertion of its own patents. Therefore, Nokia's commitment
shall not apply with regard to any party asserting its patents against
any Linux Kernel.
